The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (2 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION: Provide programmatic, administrative and logistical support on all POL/ECON/PROTOCOL functions of the Thessaloniki POL/ECON/PROTOCOL office, operating under the supervision of the POL/ECON Specialist.  Provide briefings, written reports, guidance, insight, analysis, and advice to American officers regarding economic and commercial developments across northern Greece.  Identify trade and business opportunities.  Cultivate and maintain key contacts in these sectors.  Arrange for official calls and accompany USG personnel on visits, serving as note taker and interpreter when needed.  Manage and maintain post’s contact data base and in the absence of POL/ECON Specialist, back-up basic functions of the position, including temporary supervision of POL/ECON intern.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE:  Three years of experience in economic/political analysis, research, writing/reporting.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of host country’s political, economic, social and educational structure, institutions.  Understanding of nature and history of Greece’s political parties and institutions, economy, trade and commerce, judiciary, military, NGO sector, and relations with neighboring countries.  Basic network of contacts in political party, academia, business and media.

Education Requirements:

EDUCATION: University Degree required, in any of the following fields: Economics, Political Sciences, International Relations, Public Policy/Administration, Law. 


LANGUAGE: English language - level IV (fluent) speak/read/write and

                  Greek language - level IV (fluent) speak/read/write are required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Highly developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. Understanding of social mores and practices. Ability to explain functioning of Greek state institutions, policies and procedures. Ability to deliver concise and focused oral and written briefings on policy topics and prepare reports, speeches and presentations.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Greece may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
