The work schedule for this position is:  Full Time is 40 hours per week

Performs preventive maintenance of package heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment for U.S. Government-owned and leased properties.  Position is located in the Facilities Management Residential Maintenance branch and reports to the Preventive Maintenance (PM) Shop Supervisor.

Position performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance of packaged air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment at U.S. Government-owned and leased properties.  Follows manufacturers’ recommendations to ensure proper and reliable equipment operations.  Makes minor incidental repairs during the course of performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications and Evaluations



Three years of continuous, progressive work experiences in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field, plus some semi-skilled experiences in the other building and maintenance trades is required; i.e. electrical and plumbing.


Must possess full knowledge of established practices and procedures involved in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field.  Must possess a general knowledge in the following trades: electrical and plumbing.

Education Requirements:

Completion of secondary school (or local equivalent) or technical school with specialized training and certification as a Refrigeration or HVAC Technician is required.



Basic Knowledge of English – Able to use greetings, ask simple questions and give simple directions.  Can form basic sentences and express basic thoughts.   “This may be tested.” 

Limited Knowledge of French or Bambara – Reasonable confident in speaking French or Bambara and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms.  “This may be tested.”


Must possess a strong working knowledge in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field and the ability to safely use the tools of the trade.  Must be able to climb ladders and work in high places and/or constricted spaces.  Must have a valid drivers’ license.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Bamako, may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
