The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Basic Function of the Position – Position requires an experienced Architect who will be responsible for providing Architectural & Engineering (A&E) Design Services and Project Management for all Mission facilities and grounds, ensuring Mission safety through proper maintenance, operation, development, and preservation of U.S. Government owned and leased buildings. The roles and responsibilities of the Architect cover an expansive and diverse portfolio including supervision of all construction projects throughout the design process and making on-site engineering inspections of construction projects and reporting to the Facility Manager. Develops Scopes of Work for post-managed projects, analyzes the contractor's bid quotations and conducts bid negotiations with contractors. The Architect also provides professional expertise on preserving architectural and artistic elements of the chancery and other historically significant edifices.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE: 4 years of specialized experience as Consulting Architect, Plant Engineer or Design Engineer is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Individual must have knowledge of professional architectural or engineering concepts, principles, and practices (in order to serve as the technical and business manager of designated projects, from the preliminary planning stage through the design and construction phases). Knowledge of current design techniques, construction methods, and project manag ement concepts to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects. Knowledge of design and construction programs and contract administration procedures, regulations, requirements, and coordination procedures. Must be able to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and blueprints. Must know safety practices applicable to the construction industry and local safety laws. Must have a good general knowledge of local bui lding codes and requirements. Must have a good knowledge of engineering drafting practices. Skilled in verbal and written communication, in order to communicate efficiently with all interrelated parties.

Education Requirements:

4 year Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering is required.




This may be tested.

LANGUAGE: Level 3 English and Hungarian language for reading, speaking and writing is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Professional architectural or engineering concepts, principles, and practices (in order to serve as the technical and business manager of designated projects, from the preliminary planning stage through the design and construction phases); current design techniques, construction methods and project management concepts to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects; design and construction programs and contract administration procedures, regulations, requirements and coordination procedures; verbal and written communication, in order to communicate efficiently with all interrelated parties. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle a large workload and multiple tasks. Must be highly organized. Incumbent should be computer literate and have good working knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Hungary may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
