The work schedule for this position is:   Full Time ( 40 hours per week)

The incumbent's primary responsibility is to perform building engineering services. Responsible for operations, maintenance and repair of the Embassy's mechanical and electrical systems i.e. heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), water treatment plant, fire/sprinkler alarm system, chiller equipment, pumps, fuel distribution system (gasoline and diesel), water pumps, generators, air-handling equipment, electrical switchgear and the wastewater system having a value of over $10M in the New Embassy Compound (NEC). Incumbent uses building automation system (BAS) and other technical tools and diagnostic equipment under the direct supervision of the Building Engineer. Directly supervises 2 supervisors, 4 team leaders and 12 technician positions.


Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE: Five years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical engineering, supervision, office procedures and quality control applicable to utility and building operations, maintenance and repairs. Experience operating and maintaining a building automation system is required.


Incumbent must possess a good knowledge of computer systems, networks and programs, including those related to the BAS. Must have a journeyman level of knowledge of established trade practices and inspection techniques. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering principles related to utility and building infrastructure is also required. Must also have knowledge of International and U.S. Building codes, fire and electrical codes and life safety codes.

Education Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college program with a degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.



English Level IV is required. "This may be tested"

French Level IV is required. "This may be tested"


Must be able to develop statements of work and estimates for small projects; supervise, lead and direct local staff; work unsupervised and occasionally use tools and equipment to accomplish assigned tasks. Must have the ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical and plumbing layouts and drawings; use AutoCAD, or other CAD programs, to make changes to record as-built conditions.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Bamako/Mali may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
