Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Brasilia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Cashier in the Financial Management Center (FMC).


The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week).

Duties

Basic Function of the Position – As the Alternate Class B Cashier in a post with highly complex cashiering operation, the position manages the full range of cashier activities including the receipt, collection, disbursement, accountability, examination, safekeeping, replenishment and other processing of cash items or cash transactions for the Embassy and the Consulates, including their visitors, staff and eligible family members.  Incumbent is responsible for an operating cash advance of $230,000 which is the largest in the Mission, the keeping and maintenance of detailed records, preparation, data entry and transmission of cashier documents to Comptroller and Global Financial Services (CFSC) Charleston.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible work in technical accounting or bookkeeping, and cashier work is required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE: Substantial and detailed knowledge of the banking industry in Brazil including accommodation exchange services, accounting concepts and logical thinking.  Broad knowledge of disbursements, collections, accountability, replenishment of funds, and vouchering requirements. In depth knowledge of cashier operations required. Thorough background in all aspects of financial management work. Expert knowledge of cashier operations and regulations including the procedures associated with handling, monitoring, safekeeping, and recording cash transactions and related financial instruments.

Education Requirements:

A minimum of two years of College or university studies in Business Administration, International Relations, Trade, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or Banking and Cashiering disciplines is required.

LANGUAGE:  (This may be tested)


Level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking in English is required.


Level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking in Portuguese is required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (This may be tested)


Employee must be able to determine the validity of cash or cash instruments prior to accepting them for collection or disbursement (i.e., examination of currency to determine authenticity or vouchers to determine that proper approvals exist).  Must be able to use a personal computer to access and maintain the COAST database. Must know how to use software such as MS Excel and MS Word to create reports and memoranda/correspondence. Must be able to use a calculator by touch to make computations or check computations included in reports or on vouchers.  Employee must be able to use the COAST Cashiering system. Must be able to maintain accuracy in data entry and management of cash.  Ability to communicate clearly and provide quality customer service.  Ability to identify and safeguard discretionary or confidential matters handled directly by the incumbent or discussed by others during the performance of duties.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
