Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Kigali is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for position of Maintenance Mechanic (Appliance Repair).

The work schedule for this position is Full-time (40 hours per week).

Duties

Incumbent is responsible for the installation, repairs and maintenance of appliances including but not limited to laundry washers and dryers, dish washers, refrigerators, freezers, distillers, air conditioners, pumps, pressure tanks, ovens/stoves and cooktops. S/he works with the GSO Property section when installing, moving or removing appliances to ensure accurate property records and inventory accounting. When a work request is received, will investigate and troubleshoot the equipment and will replace defective components in accordance with current ICASS standards. Will reassemble equipment and test for safe and proper operation. Work will be accomplished in residences and/or in the appliance repair shop as deemed most efficient. Will keep a record of all appliances repaired for future review and use in determining the lifecycle of an appliance. Clean appliances received for repair prior to reissuing or restocking in the warehouse.  May move and lift large appliances weighing over 50 pounds.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years experience in maintenance and repair of household appliances is required.

Education Requirements:

Completion of Secondary School is required. Craft certificate in electrical equipment maintenance is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) of English and Kinyarwanda is required. (This may be tested).


Possession of a valid local driver's license.

Qualifications:
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications and complete a mandatory probationary period for LE Staff.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. The Mission may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.

2. Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.

3. Current employees of the Mission hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment. This does not apply for employees on a PSA (Temp), or those are hired on a When Actually Employed (WAE) or intermittent work schedule.

4. Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
