The work schedule for this position is:

The person in this position provides technical and financial application customer support in a 24 hour/7 day per week environment to more than 200 Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Communicates and assists all levels of Embassy and Consulate personnel, including the Management Office, the Financial Management Office, non-Department of State Agency Offices, the Information Management and Security Office and the Chief of Mission's Office. Promotes and shares techniques for increased operational effectiveness. The position reports to a CGFS Customer Support & Training manager and the Director of Customer Support & Training.

Qualifications and Evaluations



Minimum two years overall relevant professional experience in customer help desk support. Either financial application support or technical customer support is required. Professional experience in client-server and web technologies or performing business systems analysis is beneficial; focus on financial systems is preferred.


  • Responsibility for issue resolutions that sometimes include database or software analysis.  

  • Ability to quickly learn and understand Department of State (DOS) software systems in order to investigate and resolve issues. 

  • Ability to learn and apply U.S. Government (USG) policies and regulations and provide clear explanations to overseas posts.



Education Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management Systems, Liberal Arts is required.


This may be tested:


Fluent Speaking/Reading/Writing English language skills. Ability to provide technical and analytical written instructions to all levels of Consulate and Embassy staff in countries worldwide. 


  • Skills in writing, interpersonal relations and customer service;

  • Analytical skills to determine the best method of resolving basic to complex software problems.

  • Understanding of complex enterprise-level networking and computer architecture;

  • Fast and accurate typing when talking to the customer real time on the phone is helpful;

  • Basic accounting knowledge is helpful;

  • Ability to work in a team environment is required.

Agency Benefits:

For Locally Employed Staff, the U.S. Mission in Bulgaria provides a competitive benefits package in addition to the base pay salary.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
