Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Cairo/Egypt is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Upholsterer (3 positions) in the General Services Office The work schedule for this position is: Full Time - 40 hours per week.


Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Furnishings Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for measuring, cutting, sewing, and installing of draperies, canopies and awnings for Embassy customers. This position will occasionally require that the incumbent work at high levels above ground using a scaffold and ladders. Must adhere to safety regulations and standards.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of upholstery/ drapery assistant experience is required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have good knowledge of taking measurements of fabrics and windows, cutting, and sewing various types of fabrics for the fabrication of draperies and awnings, Must be able to work independently and at remote locations with minimal supervision.

Education Requirements:

Completion of elementary school is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Limited knowledge in speaking/writing/reading of English is required. (This will be tested).


Good working knowledge in speaking/writing/reading of Arabic is required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Must be skilled in using various types of sewing machines and drapery tools. Incumbent will be required to learn then locations of various types of supply and property items and to learn to recognize furniture and appliances by sight and from oral description.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Cairo, Egypt may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the Human Resources Office.
