Summary:

The Tri-Missions Vienna are seeking eligible and qualified applicants for position of Technical Monitor Assistant with the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM - https://www.usagm.gov/).


The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Duties

The incumbent of this position is the Assistant to the Senior Regional Technical Monitor Office (TMO) Supervisor. In this function he/she evaluates and improves USAGM shortwave and mediumwave transmissions. The incumbent listens to USAGM and other broadcasters' transmissions on shortwave and mediumwave to evaluate technical reception quality. This is performed by live monitoring and evaluating audio clips recorded by Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS) deployed throughout the area of responsibility. Obtains schedules from USAGM’s central database to independently select target area broadcasts as the basis for live and RMS monitoring effort. Also performs data processing and analysis duties and surveys as well as equipment installation and maintenance. These duties may require field trips. 


In absence of the TMO supervisor, the incumbent assumes responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the office, performing a variety of administrative duties associated with these responsibilities. May provide guidance and/or oversight to contract monitors and other TMO's staff within the assigned region of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: 


A minimum of two years of experience directly related to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below is required, i.e. as amateur radio operator, active shortwave listening experience or radio operator in military or civilian organizations.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:  



  • Knowledge of radio propagation is required

  • Must be familiar with international shortwave broadcasting.

  • Familiarity with Apple computers and mobile devices is required.

Education Requirements:

Secondary school. Completion of high school or equivalent education is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:  


Level 4 (Fluency) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English. This may be tested
Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of German. This may be tested


Successful candidate must also be able to recognize languages of the world and to accurately identify spoken station identifications in those languages.



SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  



  • Must be able to identify and determine kind and source of interference/degradation to desired signals

  • Must be able to determine and discuss/communicate reception issues with other offices/headquarters

  • Ability to diagnose computer/network issues at remote installations and guide caretakers/hosts to resolve the problems is required.

For Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), locally-resident EFMs, working at the Tri-Missions Vienna, compensation also consists of the prorated 13th and 14th month payment in addition to the Euro salary above. The compensation package will include health, separation, and other benefits.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
