The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time 40  hours per week

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

The Laboratory Specialist works under the supervision of the Senior Laboratory Specialist to provide technical assistance in support of HIV/AIDS program, operational research and surveillance to ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in accordance with the U.S government (USG) standards and internationally recognized best practices. The incumbent works with the Ministry of Public Health in Haiti (MSPP) and implementing partners to provide comprehensive technical assistance in support of strengthening the laboratory program that targets diseases of public health significance (i.e. HIV, Tuberculosis, Cholera, Influenza, COVID, Malaria, etc.). The role and responsibility require technical knowledge, public health experience, as well as constant and clear communication with CDC, USG laboratory and other programs, MSPP and other laboratory implementing partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Evaluations



A minimum of three years of experience in a clinical health or public health laboratory setting is required.


Education Requirements:

A Bachelor of Science degree or host country equivalent in Applied Biology (Microbiology), Virology, Medical Laboratory Technology or related science (medicine, biology or chemistry) is required.


LANGUAGE:   Level IV (fluency - speaking/reading/writing) in English is required. “This may be tested” 

Level IV (fluency - speaking/reading/writing) in French is required.

Level IV (fluency - speaking/reading/writing) in Creole is required.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Port-au Prince may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
