The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Under the supervision of the Economic and Commercial Officer, the Commercial Specialist provides the full range of Commercial services to promote U.S. exports and investment, including business matchmaking, recruiting for select U.S. trade shows, and supporting trade missions.  The incumbent drafts the Country Commercial Guide, Investment Climate Statement, and contributes to other economic reporting.  The incumbent also organizes trade promotion events with local stakeholders such as the American Chamber of Commerce and maintains contacts with the business community, academics, and host government entities to accomplish goals.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in fields such as trade promotion, international trading, private business – government relationships, marketing, economic analysis, finance or American chambers of commerce is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  A strong working knowledge of host country’s economy, trade and investment practices, industries, business sectors, restrictions, organizations, customs, and key persons. General understanding of American business practices.

Education Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Marketing, or Business Administration is required.


LANGUAGE:  Fluent English Language is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to develop work programs and maintain working and senior level contacts in government and private sector.  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  Must be proficient in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.  Perceptiveness working within Embassy environment.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Kingston, Jamaica may receive a compensation package that may include Health and Life insurance, Pension, U.S. and Jamaican holidays, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
