Duties

The position will provide the full range of professional nursing services to American and Locally Employed Staff. It will support the activities of the Medical Unit and Medical Provider in providing clinical services to the patient population eligible to receive care at the Medical Unit. Responsible for the Health Orientation of New Arrivals, coordinate referral appointments to outside consultants for lab work, specialized tests required by Washington, other consultations necessary for treating or evaluating acutely ill patients or those with chronic disease, coordinate Medical evaluation and local hospitalization of Foreign Service Personnel. maintain an Immunization Clinic for Routine and Travel Immunizations, maintain an occupational health clinic, Health Promotion Program, maintain Reserve Medical Unit Kit (RMUK) at the Alternative Medical Unit Site,  provide laboratory services in accordance with State Department Procedures, Maintain pharmacy.


 









 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:


Must have at least two years of hospital or outpatient nursing experience; preferred that at least one year be with a U.S. Federal agency or U.S. Embassy primary health care facility.  Previous experience with IV therapy, immunizations, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous medication required.  Venipuncture skills required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE: 


Must have current science and technology understanding.  Must have strong interpersonal skills.  Must be familiar with American standards of nursing care.  Must be able to work independently at times with only telephone connection to MP.  Must be able to administer adult and pediatric immunization program according to current CDC standards.   A good working knowledge or experience of current health promotion recommendations in the U.S. population is required.  Experience in management and procurement of expendable medical supplies and equipment for ambulatory care clinic is required.  Must be able to perform basic word processing on the computer.

Education Requirements:

Must be a graduate of a Professional nursing school with a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Western European equivalent

LANGUAGE: 


Level IV (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in English is required


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Advanced nursing procedure skills as evidenced by education and experience.  Ability to administer oxygen therapy and use nebulizer, ability to comfortably perform venipuncture and administer medications via all routes of administration; ability to start and monitor IV fluid therapy.  The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust security clearance
