Performs screening procedures for all visitors entering US Government facilities. Guards must be able to maintain their composure while working under constant pressure. They must be able to practice good security procedures at all times even when inundated with large amounts of information or distractions. 

He/she needs to be able to deal tactfully and persuasively with all visitors. Must be able to effectively communicate with visitors to determine their reason for wanting to enter the U.S. Government facility and must have the ability to pass on situation reports in both English and Romanian as required.  Must be able to perform static and walking foot patrols of assigned area.                                                                                                                       

Qualifications and Evaluations



One year experience in security or a related field is required.


  Knowledge of security practices, basic self-defense and crime prevention, required.

Education Requirements:

Completion of high school is required. (Baccalaureate degree)




Level III (good working knowledge) of English language, both written and spoken, and level III in Romanian, required. This will be tested prior the interview.



Ability to deal tactfully yet firmly with all Embassy employees and visitors to US Government facilities in Bucharest.  Must be able to react quickly in emergency situations.  

Must possess a valid B driver’s license.

In addition to the salary, the Embassy provides bonuses and other benefits.

The Embassy offers bonuses and other benefits:

  • Supplemental Medical Reimbursement Plan to local employees who are employed on a full-time or part-time basis under non-temporary appointments will be reimbursed the covered medical expenses (for employee and eligible dependents, up to an annual amount of RON 2500 per patient per fiscal year);

  • Christmas Bonus: Employees who have been on the payroll the entire year receive one monthly salary as a Christmas Bonus, or a prorated bonus, if hired during the year;

  • Holidays: In addition to annual leave, employees receive both Romanian and American holidays observed by the embassy during the year, which are approximately 20 days per year. Employees who work on Romanian or American holidays also receive extra compensation (Holiday Pay).

  • Awards for superior performance and innovation.

  • Meritorious Based Compensation, annual salary increase based on performance.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in (insert post and/or country name) may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
