Summary:

The work schedule for this position is:



  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

  • Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties

Responsible for the management of all general grounds maintenance and landscaping activities on the New Embassy Compound (NEC) and other US government-owned or leased properties.  Responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing the day-to-day work programs of a team of 13 Gardeners, as well as oversight of selected vendors, to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment for staff, visitors and the public. 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  


Two (2) years of experience in grounds or landscape management that includes at least six months of supervisory experience is required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE: 


 Knowledge of job supervision, planning, estimating, use of tools and equipment and proper handling of hazardous materials. Skilled in the use of power equipment commonly used in grounds keeping. Technical knowledge of planting cycles, soil chemistry, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.

Education Requirements:

Completion of high school (or host nation equivalent) is required.

LANGUAGE:  


Limited Knowledge of English – Reasonable confident in speaking English and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms.   This may be tested.


Limited Knowledge of French or Bambara – Reasonable confident in speaking French or Bambara and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms.    This may be tested.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES Optional:


Must possess basic mechanical abilities and be skilled in the use of hand tools and power equipment commonly used in grounds keeping. A valid drivers’ license is required.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Bamako/Mali may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
