The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week).

Basic Function of the Position – Incumbent of the position will be responsible to supervise nine gardeners who engage in planting and maintaining gardens, lawns, and trees at the consulate and associated government-owned and leased facilities. The Gardener Foreman ensures the quality of work, productivity, planning, organizing, and customer service from gardener s/he supervises. Will be an expert in using high-end gardening equipment and suggests the most effective gardening methods to ensure the landscape of USG properties are manicured. S/he designs and plans the specifications required for all interior and exterior displays and landscaping. Provides guidance to subordinate staff in the preparation of the soil and plants in the cultivation, fertilization, watering, spraying, pruning, and transplanting of shrubs, trees, vegetables, flowering plants, and perennial annual flowers. 


Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE:  Minimum four years of gardening or landscaping experience is required. 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  The incumbent should have good working knowledge of how to plant and care for plants and flowers keeping in view the season and climatic condition of the area.  

Education Requirements:

Completion of eight years of education is required. 


LANGUAGE:  Level II (Limited) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English & Level III (good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Urdu is required. English language skills will be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must have skills in preparing landscape for plantation and the ability to effectively supervise a large workforce.  The incumbent must be able to use pertinent power tools used in gardening such as hand and power lawn mowers, tree trimmers, saws, shears, hedge trimmers, chain saw, weed removers, vertical lifts(JLG) and boom lifts (Genie), and other miscellaneous equipment used in gardening. S/he must have ability to do basic landscape planning and the knowledge of which resources are needed. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffoldings. Must be able to perform the basic paperwork involve in completion of work orders and routine work. Must be skillful when working as a team member.  Understand and comply with the on-call duty assignments. A valid Pakistani driving license for Motor Car/Jeep is required. Applicants must show proof that they have a minimum of five years of licensed driving experience. Skills and abilities will be tested.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Karachi, Pakistan may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

2. Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply. Current OR employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.

3. Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

4. The candidate must be able to obtain and hold the local security certification.

5. Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.

6. Current employees who have voluntarily been reassigned/promoted from one position to another are not eligible to apply for six months from the effective date of the reassignment/promotion.

7. Current employees who have received any job-related training are not eligible to apply in another section/agency for six months from the effective date of the training.

8. U.S. Mission Pakistan will not bear any travel expenses for testing, interviews, pre-employment clearances (if selected) or relocation for joining.
