The U.S. Mission in Cairo/Egypt is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Upholsterer in the General Services Office The work schedule for this position is: Full Time - 40 hours per week.

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Under the supervision of the Furnishings Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for making drapes and upholstery furniture for Embassy customers. Drapes making includes measuring, cutting, sewing, installing of draperies, canopies, and awnings. Upholstery furniture includes upholstery sofas, chairs and dining; s/he is responsible for removing old fabric, covering, repairing springs and webbings, inspecting furniture pieces to guarantee serviceability, measuring and cutting fabric to required shape, sewing and affixing to furniture piece or cushion. Incumbent is expected to apply standard and common sense safety practices.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of upholstery and drapery experience is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have good knowledge of measuring, cutting and sewing of fabric, and  constructing of draperies and awnings. knowledge of upholstery trades and familiarity with American standards and American drapery styles.

Education Requirements:

Completion of secondary school is required.


LANGUAGE: Basic knowledge (level I) in speaking/writing/reading of English is required. (This may be tested).

Good working knowledge (level III) in speaking/writing/reading of Arabic is required.


Must be skilled in using sewing and hemming machines and hand tools of the trades. (This may be tested)

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Cairo, Egypt may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the Human Resources Office.
