The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

This position serves as the Associate Director for Communication and is the most senior health communications expert and principal advisor to the CDC Country Director and Deputy Country Director on communication and marketing science, research and practice. The position receives direct supervision from the Deputy Country Director. Leads and directs the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication and marketing program, including the establishing of goals and objectives, instituting policies, programs, and activities and ensuring integration with other research, surveillance, and prevention activities.  As a senior member of the management team, provides coordination and quality assurance for all communication and marketing activities, assures the health information is accurately and appropriately represented to diverse constituencies; applies communication and marketing solutions for complex and controversial problems; conducts analyses and assessments affecting program and policy decisions and relationships at all governmental levels;  and participates in scientific meetings, colloquia and internal and external government venues requiring knowledge and understanding of CDC’s communication and marketing and applicable programmatic activities, goals and objectives. 

Qualifications and Evaluations



A minimum of five years of professional level experience in communication is required.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s level degree in public health including behavioral science, psychology, health education, and health promotion; library; information science; public relations; journalism; or marketing is required.



Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing of English is required. (This will be tested)

Level IV (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing of Portuguese is required. (This will be tested)



Must have demonstrated skills in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis methods which may include biostatistics, qualitative research design or analysis, geographic information systems, etc.

Strong computer literacy and aptitude to rapidly acquire and apply additional skills. Strong skills in Excel required.

Skills necessary to write clear and concise documents, reports, program and policy guidelines, directives, articles for peer review; skill and ability to orally present programmatic matters clearly to an audience.

Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.

Skill in at least one of the more common epidemiologic data analysis software programs (EPIINFO, STATA, SAS, or SPSS) is highly desirable.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Mozambique may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
