About the Agency

The U.S. Mission in Kuwait is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the positions of a Radio Technician to work in the International Broadcasting Bureau Station located at Umm Al-Rimam, 40 miles north of Kuwait City.

Applications from candidates not residing in Kuwait will be considered.  The Embassy will provide the following benefits for the selected candidate: Travel upon arrival and separation only (Economy class air ticket for candidate and dependents) - Transportation of household effects (Excluding shipment of privately-owned vehicle) - Temporary lodging not to exceed 60 days - Excess baggage (up to 24 kg for candidate and 14 kg for each dependent).

- Configures and operates various high powered transmitters, to include Medium Wave (MW), Shortwave (SW), Frequency Modulated (FM) units and associated equipment.

- Operates and adjusts all master control room equipment as required to ensure optimum program levels and accurate transmitter frequency. 

- Monitors operating conditions of transmitters and records on meter logs.  

- Performs detailed inspection of transmitters after use. 

- Operates Satellite systems with associated equipment.

- Performs scheduled maintenance on all transmitters and associated equipment, including air and water cooling systems, switch gears, antenna tuning houses, and remote control systems.  

- Performs scheduled maintenance on satellite systems together with associated equipment.

- Performs scheduled maintenance on all power tools and equipment, test instruments, ATU’s window-type air-conditioners, and station internal lighting.

- Performs and records scheduled Proof of Performance (POP) measurements on all transmitters and associated audio equipment, RF impedance measurement of network circuits to include antennas and transmission lines, to ensure all systems are operating within established specifications.

Qualifications and Evaluations


Two years of experience, which includes the ability and skills to perform maintenance on complex electronic systems. Experienced in performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on complex electronic equipment.



Education Requirements:
Completion of High School education, plus two years post high school vocational training in electronics technology.

Language skills will be tested for short-listed candidates.


Language proficiency:

Level 3 English (Reading/Writing/Speaking).   Language skills will be tested.

Job knowledge:

Extensive knowledge of electronic theory as it applies to the maintenance and operation of high power transmitting systems and satellite systems and knowledge of technical aspects of digital electronics and digital communication techniques.  

Skills and Abilities:

Proficiency in the use of various hand/power tools and laboratory type test/measuring instruments.  Competent in reading electronics and electrical drawings.


Benefits and Other Info


Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


Agency Benefits:

For USEFM - FP-07 Step 1 starting salary is $43,031 p.a.  Actual Foreign Service salary is determined by Washington D.C.  The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the Human Resources Office.

* IMPORTANT:  Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.


** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
